Pear Yogurt Oats

Cooked oats are cooled and then stirred through cold yogurt with soft pieces of pear left whole, which is what gives this bowl its deliberately lumpy texture.

  1. 1Simmer 2 tbsp oats in ¼ cup water for 5 minutes until thick, then spread them on a plate to cool completely.
  2. 2Peel ½ pear and cut it into small soft pieces; if the pear is firm, steam the pieces for 4–5 minutes until they yield to a gentle squeeze.
  3. 3Stir the cooled oats into ¼ cup plain yogurt.
  4. 4Fold in the pear so it stays in distinct soft pieces rather than being mashed away.
  5. 5Serve cool, sitting with your baby and letting them manage the lumps at their own pace.

Tip. Made the night before, the oats soften further in the yogurt and no cooking is needed in the morning.

Blend or mash very smooth when appropriate for your baby's feeding abilities.

8–10 months
Many babies may be ready for slightly more texture as their skills develop.

Serve thicker or try a preloaded spoon when developmentally appropriate.
