Avocado Banana Mash

Two soft raw fruits mashed together, ready in about three minutes. The avocado keeps things mild and creamy while the banana brings a little natural sweetness.

  1. 1Halve the avocado, check the flesh is soft and buttery all the way through, and scoop ½ into a bowl with ½ a peeled ripe banana — one with a few brown speckles mashes most easily.
  2. 2Press both down with the back of a fork, then keep working the mixture until no lumps or firm streaks of avocado remain.
  3. 3For a smoother puree, push the mash through a fine sieve or beat in a spoonful of your baby’s usual milk.
  4. 4Serve straight away while the colour is fresh, and sit with your baby while they eat.

Tip. Avocado browns quickly once cut, so mash only what you need and press cling film onto the surface of any leftovers.

6–8 months
Blend or mash very smooth when appropriate for your baby's feeding abilities.

8–10 months
Many babies may be ready for slightly more texture as their skills develop.

10–12 months
Serve thicker or try a preloaded spoon when developmentally appropriate.
